In light of Christmas approaching it is a good time to re-affirm our roots from the Bible as to what status a baby has in this world. I find it heartily so in light of the fact that the season of Christmas is the celebration of the fact that God Almighty became a baby in the womb of Mary in order to enter this world and pay for our sins. We Christians walk in the steps of a Savior who became a baby! How do we treat babies? What are the presuppositions we find for babies in the Bible?
Pre-Birth - babies are known by the Lord; Formed by Him; Called to a Purpose
A. Jeremiah 1:4-5
4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying,
5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."
Babies are seen as great in God's eyes and can be filled with the Holy Spirit
B. Luke 1:15
15 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth.
God Himself became a baby in order to become one of us
C. Luke 1:31-33
31 You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."
Babies are a part of God's Plan and Work in this world and Joyfully so
D. Luke 1:44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.
Babies are made in the Image of God and in His Likeness
E. Genesis 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his own image,in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
Let the Scriptures shape your concepts of that little one in the womb. Our culture is a culture of death seeking to redefine truth. A being created in the image of God is not a fetus or a collection of tissue. Would you be the one who interrupts the plan and purpose of God for one of these little ones?

Unicorn Birthday Party
We had Emma's birthday party in the back yard yesterday. It was a great success and Tiffany and Jeff did a great job making a little girl's dream come true. Emma LOVES Unicorns! They rented a couple of Shetlands that had their manes and tails rainbow colored, sparkles sprayed all over them and of course - a horn.

To Tweet Or Not To Tweet

Have you heard of Twitter? I expect you might have but like me initially passed over references to it because you had no clue what it was. I have become a fan of Twitter and use it most days now and would like to give you a basic idea of what it does. This post I am writing is on my blog JimcSmith. A blog allows for long posts with a lot of information along with pictures and videos. Twitter is called by some people a Micro-Blog meaning that you can blog to the world and your friends yet in a smaller more concise form. When you use Twitter and send a blog entry out it is called a Tweet! You can begin using Twitter by going to their website and signing up. It is free and can be found here. After signing up your new account is visible to other users of Twitter and they can view your profile and click to begin Following you. This means they will be able to read all the tweets you send out. You can also search Twitters website for other users of Twitter and click to follow them. Once you select someone to follow then each time they send out a Tweet you will have it displayed on your Twitter homepage for you to read. I read a large number of blogs by subscribing to the blog's feed in Google Reader. Twitter is very similar in that you can subscribe to other Twitter users by Following them. The fun part of Twitter for me is that I can Tweet from my iPhone. There are a number of applications you can download for the iPhone to Tweet with. I am using Twittelator Pro. I am not up to speed on all the other smart phones out there like Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and Palm but do know that they all have Twitter clients you can download and install on your phone. If you have a cell phone that does not allow installing applications you can always Tweet from your computer by going to the Twitter website. My Twittelator Pro even allows me to take photos with my iPhone and send them with the tweets. You can also send web link url's out in your messages. In addition to individual Twitter users to follow you can find companies, churches, and organizations that are on Twitter. You can follow them and receive updates as they post Tweets. It is a lot of fun and very informational. You can make Twitter into whatever you want as far as information goes. Use it just for family and friends. Use it to find new friends with common interests. Use it to follow political and religious news. If you use Facebook you will want to install the Twitter application too. Search for Twitter in Facebook and then install the application. Give it your Twitter account information and then each time you send out a Tweet it will update your Facebook status with your Tweet. Once you get on Twitter come follow me by clicking here.
Go to my profile page and click the Follow button on the upper left hand side of the page. Give it a try I bet you will like it!

A Prayer for Parliament
The following is a prayer said daily in the English Parliament from 1661 A.D. until 1997. Though more descriptive of the house of Parliament in England I see much within it that speaks to our Senate and House. With approval ratings hovering around 15% in the United States our leaders have oftentimes lost their way. Lift our leaders up that they may find their role as Statesmen again.
Almighty God, by whom alone kings reign and princes
decree justice, and from whom alone cometh all counsel,
wisdom, and understanding; We, thine unworthy servants,
here gathered together in thy Name, do most humbly
beseech thee to send down thy heavenly wisdom from above,
to direct and guide us in all our consultations;
and grant that, we having thy fear always before our eyes,
and laying aside all private interests, prejudices,
and partial affections, the result of all our counsels may be
the glory of thy blessed name, the maintenance of true
religion and justice, the safety, honor, and happiness of
the Queen, the public welfare, peace, and tranquillity of the
realm, and the uniting and knitting together of the hearts
of all persons and estates within the same, in true
Christian love and charity one toward another, through
Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Amen.

Two Statements By Barak Obama
#1 on Redistribution of Wealth (Socialism)
"the Warren Supreme Court failed to reinterpret the Constitution to read into it what was not there: Redistribution of wealth for "political and economic justice in this society."
#2 on forgetting the rule of law for power brokering interest groups:
one of the "great tragedies of the civil rights movement" was that it was court-centric and got away from "political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributive change."
From a radio interview shortly after the terrorists attack of 911. To Obama redistribution of wealth is a civil right. Further, redistribution of wealth is political and economic justice.

Joel Rosenberg Speaks To Our Economic Crisis
I received a flash email from Joel Rosenberg today that is one of the best summaries of the economic crisis I have seen yet. I am quoting it in it's entirety here for you to read. If you are not familiar with Joel's work please visit his website here.
He has an email list you can subscribe to that provides great analysis of the current events in light of Bible Prophecy.
P.S. if you have not discovered Joel's books yet then go to Amazon and search for him. He was written several books that are terrific. Some are fiction novels and some are not. All of them are wonderful works.
And I Quote For Joel From This Point On:
"U.S. foes gloat over financial crisis" (Associated Press)
"Iran hails world financial crisis as 'end of capitalism'" (Agence France Presse)
"We are witnessing the collapse of the American Empire." - Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh
"We are happy that the U.S. economy is in anarchy and the anarchy is reaching Europe. They are seeing the result of their own ugly doings and God is punishing them." - top Iranian cleric
------------------------------
(Washington, D.C., October 16, 2008)-- The U.S. is experiencing the most serious financial crisis since the Great Depression. Our enemies know it. They smell blood in the water. Consider the latest developments:
* "Wall Street stocks plunged Wednesday in the second biggest single day point loss in history and their worst percentage fall in two decades, ravaged by fears the world's biggest economy is slipping into recession. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 733.08 points (7.87 percent) to close at 8,577.91 in the worst one-day point loss since last month's record 777-point decline and the steepest percentage drop since 1987. In an even more brutal decline, the broad-market Standard & Poor's index plunged 90.17 points (9.03 percent) to 907.84." (AFP)
* "We are living through financial history of the tragic kind. As of Friday's close, America's stock market had declined in value by well over 40 per cent compared with its peak a year ago. Already, this ranks as the fifth biggest stock market decline since the 1920s." (U.K. Independent)
* "U.S. stocks [in recent days have] plunged the most since the crash of 1987, hammered by the biggest drop in retail sales in three years and growing doubt that plans to bail out banks will keep the economic slump from deepening….The S&P 500 has tumbled 38 percent in 2008 as losses and writedowns from mortgage-related investments at financial firms worldwide topped $640 billion….The S&P 500 has tumbled 42 percent from its Oct. 9, 2007, record and the Dow has lost 39 percent from its peak the same day." (Bloomberg News)
* "Japan's key stock index plummeted more than 11 percent, South Korean shares shed 9.25 percent, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index was down 4.8 percent. Floowing Asia's lead, benchmarks in Britain, Germany and France slipped about 3 percent. Russia's RTS also fell." (AP)
* "U.S. Forces Nine Major Banks To Accept Partial Nationalization" - Washington Post
* "The White House said G8 leaders were expected to meet this year on the worst financial crisis since the 1930s Great Depression. Governments around the world have pledged $3.2 trillion in emergency measures - roughly an equivalent to the economic output of Germany or China - including taking stakes in banks to help them stabilize, rallying world markets on Monday and Tuesday. But optimism quickly gave way to fears that government intervention would not save major economies from recession." (Reuters)
This is not a temporary glitch in the global financial software. The problems are real, deep and systemic. The best explanations and analysis I have seen have come from Steve Forbes, editor-in-chief of Forbes magazine, the nation's foremost business magazine (see Steve's recent columns).
The big question now: What does it all mean and where do we go from here? A few thoughts on the implications of this financial apocalypse:
1. First things first: our national security is inextricably tied to our economic security. Economic weakness is an invitation to radical Islamic terrorists to hit us again. It's also an invitation to other rogue nations to pursue their evil plans while thinking we are unable or unwilling to stop them. The U.S. cannot lead the world in defeating tyrants and terrorists and creating an environment of peace and prosperity if we are collapsing at home. Stabilizing our economy, reforming our financial institutions, punishing and imprisoning those who have criminally undermined our economy, and getting us back on the road to free market growth and entrepreneurial health and vitality must be the top priority of the next Commander-in-Chief.
2. I don't believe one U.S. political party or the other is specifically to blame for our own financial crisis. There is plenty of blame to go around and the problems have been developing for years. That said, it is becoming increasingly clear to me that the U.S. stock markets are tanking especially hard right now in part because investors believe Sen. Barack Obama is going to win on November 4th. As polls for Obama and Congressional Democrats have risen - and Americans have begun to sense that Obama's election as president and expanded control of Congress by Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Harry Reid and their liberal allies is inevitable - investors' fears have not been calmed. They have been exacerbated. True, investors don't see a complete and convincing economic rescue plan from Sen. McCain. But they see disaster in Obama's plan and the likelihood of full control of the U.S. government by the Democrats. The Obama-Pelosi-Reid prescription, after all, is the worst possible medicine for the economy - $1.3 trillion in new federal spending, dramatic tax increases on small businesses, dramatic tax increases on big businesses, dramatic tax increases on those who create wealth, a major new tax on energy producers, as well as nationalized health care system. We are not simply on the brink of a serious recession; we are on the brink of another Great Depression. How, then, will massive tax increases and massive government spending help us fight our way out of this crisis? Answer: it won't. And Main Street and Wall Street know it. Just ask Joe the Plumber.
3. Are there prophetic implications of this financial crisis? It is hard to be definitive. The U.S. does not show up specifically in any end times Bible prophecies. But this fact alone raises a sobering question: If we are really in what the Bible describes as "the last days" before the return of Jesus Christ, then how is it possible that the United States of America - the wealthiest and most powerful nation on the face of the planet in the history of mankind - does not play a significant, notable role in Biblical end times events?
The honest answer: I don't know for certain. But here's what I wrote in Dead Heat (p. 154): "What Bennett had never really considered carefully until now was the possibility that something else might devastate the American people, rendering them ineffective heading into the last of the last days. A financial downturn on Wall Street. The sudden collapse of the dollar. The beginning of another Great Depression. A series of devastating earthquakes. Or hurricanes. Or other natural disasters, like a tsunami. [Or ] the most cataclysmic terrorist attack of all time - five nuclear warheads. And there might be more to come. None of it was clearly prophesied in the Scriptures. Not that he could find. But perhaps he should have foreseen the neutralization of America by more carefully reading between the lines. If so, what else was he missing? What exactly was coming next?"
4. Finally, let us consider the possibility that the Lord is allowing this economic meltdown in part to shake our confidence in anything but a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is it possible that God is trying to shake us loose from trusting in our wealth, from trusting in our political leaders, from trusting in our own ingenuity and our own hard work? Is it possible that He is trying to get us to shift our focus from worldly, materialistic things to how much He loves us, and the truth that the only person we can truly trust in life to never leave us or forsake us is Jesus Christ? Is it possible that He is trying to get us to read the Bible more, and the stock tickers less? To pray more, and to worry less? To store up our treasures in heaven, and not concentrate so much on our treasures on earth?
Anyone who is feeling fearful during this turbulent economic times would do well to meditate on the words Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 6:19-33 --
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also….No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other You cannot serve God and wealth. For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?' For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

How To Buy Monkeys
Once upon a time, in a village, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each. The villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them. The man bought thousands at $10 and, as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort.
He further announced that he would now buy at $20 for a monkey.
This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again. Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $25 each, and the supply of monkeys became so small that it was an effort to even find a
monkey, let alone catch it!
The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of him. In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. "Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $35, and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each." The villagers rounded up all their savings and bought all the monkeys.
They never saw the man nor his assistant again, only monkeys everywhere!
Now you have a better understanding of how the stock market works.

The Election Is Near
As the time draws ever closer for Election day in this Presidential Election year I am feeling bombarded with so much information on both candidates. It has been a two year campaign and countless hours of TV and many articles to read has captured my attention. Moving away from the topics at hand, I received an email from my friend Charlie Anderson this week that really brought some matters back to balance for me. I would like to share it with you here. Thanks Charlie!
No matter who wins the election or how the current economic downturn goes, some things will still be the same.
1. The Bible will still have all the answers.
2. Prayer will still work.
3. The Holy Spirit will still move.
4. God will still inhabit the praises of His people.
5. There will still be God-anointed preaching.
6. There will still be singing of praise to God.
7. God will still pour out blessings upon His people.
8. There will still be room at the Cross.
9. Jesus will still love you.
10. Jesus will still save the lost.
What a great, loving, forgiving, and merciful God we serve.

Digsby - Instant Messenger, Email, & Social Networking

This is a plug for a new free program I found yesterday and have installed here at home. I have used Trillian Messenger for several years and thought it was the best unified messenger out there. Unified in that in one program running I could IM in Yahoo, MSN, AOL, Google, and ICQ. I was reading the Gadget Pastor Blog yesterday when he did a review on Digsby Messenger. It beats Trillian. Digsby does all the above mentioned instant messenger clients as well as Email, and as well as Twitter and Facebook and Myspace - all in one little program running on your desktop. It is free and available right for for Windows. The home page says they will soon have clients available for the Mac and for Linux. You can get this free download at Digsby.com. I am running personally right now ICQ, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, Google Talk, Facebook, and Twitter. It is a very good tool and I like it a lot. Here is a copy and paste of the features of Digsby from their website:

Man Builds Noah's Ark (exact size and scale given in The Bible)

A working replica of Noah's Ark opened in SCHAGEN, Netherlands . The massive central door in the side of Noah's Ark was opened the first crowd of curious
townsfolk to behold the wonder. Of course, it's only a replica of the biblical Ark , built by Dutch Creationist Johan Huibers as a testament to his faith in the literal truth of the Bible. The ark is 150 cubits long, 30 cubits high and 20 cubits wide. That's two-thirds the length of a football field and as high as a three-story house. Life-size models of giraffes, elephants, lions, crocodiles, zebras, bison and other animals greet visitors as they arrive in the main hold. A contractor by trade, Huibers built the ark of cedar and pine. Biblical Scholars debate exactly what the wood used by Noah would have been.
Huibers did the work mostly with his own hands, using modern tools and with occasional help from his son Roy. Construction began in May 2005. On the uncovered top deck - not quite ready in time for the opening - will come a petting zoo, with baby lambs and chickens, and goats, and one camel.
Visitors on the first day were stunned. 'It's past comprehension', said Mary Louise Starosciak, who happened to be bicycling by with her husband while on vacation when they saw the ark looming over the local landscape.
'I knew the story of Noah, but I had no idea the boat would have been so big.' There is enough space near the keel for a 50-seat film theater where kids can watch a video that tells the story of Noah and his ark. Huibers, a Christian man, said he hopes the project will renew interest in Christianity in the Netherlands, where church going has fallen dramatically in the past 50 years.

One By One We Come To Jesus
The following is a work of fiction (other than the first entry which is true!) that I am sharing. It is an attempt to emphasize the thread of generations of Christian people who have remained true to the Gospel of Jesus Christ across centuries, continents, nations, and empires. I recently was stricken by the truth that each of one us alive today in Christ have a trail of witnessing from the moment we believed and repented when someone shared with us that goes all the way back to the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ! I wondered which one of them I was from? Andrew? John? Peter? Nathaniel? There is no way of knowing and yet I wanted to write this simply to illustrate the tie that binds us. That the Gospel comes to us one by one is true. The names, dates, and places spoken of here are for illustration purposes only.
Jim Smith is a follower of Jesus Christ living in North Texas, United States.
3/18/1972 Jim Smith was led to Christ by Cecil Cotner, a Baptist Deacon, in Oklahoma City, OK.
1940 Cecil Cotner heard Graham Calloway preach and believed at a Baptist Church in Texas one Sunday Night.
1890 Evangelist Henry McMann lead Graham Calloway to the Lord at an outdoor revival meeting in Paducah, Kentucky.

I Have Added "Following" To My Blog
Google's Blogger has recently added the widget "Following" for blogs. I installed it this morning on my blog here. If you follow my blog please sign up here to be a follower. You can find the Following widget here on my blog if you look on the right side of the page at the very top. Just click there to sign up. Here is what Following will do:
What is Following?
Do you have a favorite blog and want to let the author and readers know that you are a fan? Well now you can do that and more with the Blogger Following feature! You can even keep track of the blogs you follow via your Reading List on the Blogger dashboard.
How do I become a Follower of a blog?
There are several ways to become a follower of a blog. One of the easiest ways is to visit a blog that has added the Following widget and click on the "Follow this Blog" link under the "Followers" widget:
You'll then see a popup window with the options to either follow publicly or anonymously.
Select how you'd like to follow the blog, then click the orange "Follow" button. It is that simple, you are now a follower of the blog! If you elected to follow the blog publicly, your profile picture will be displayed on the blog with a link to your Blogger profile (Note: The widget may not show all followers of the blog. If this is the case all followers will be linked from the widget). When you become a follower of a blog, the blog will also be added to your Reading List on your Blogger dashboard. Additionally, you can become a follower of any blog or URL (even if the blog doesn't have the Followers widget) by adding the blog to your Reading List on the dashboard.
How to remove yourself from following a blog
The easiest way to remove yourself from following a blog is to visit the blog, and click "Stop Following" under the Following widget on the blog.
